Short and sweet

BF of the week

The county would run much smoother if I were given three things: a backhoe, a gun, permission to use them.

No, I’m not planning on shooting people and burying them with the backhoe. Let me explain: I need the backhoe to deal with the flooding in Bearspaw, which occupies much of my time; I need a gun to keep people from filling in the channels, a particularly popular activity; some people need a sense of humour, but to each their own.

The short story

  1. BulletCouncil unanimously approved funding of $64,000 to upgrade and repair the Bearspaw Lifestyle Centre.

  2. BulletBy a vote of 7 to 2, council approved a golf course and convention facility in the far NW corner of the county.

Bearspaw Lifestyle Centre

Council unanimously approved funding of $64,000 to upgrade and repair the Bearspaw Lifestyle Centre. Funds will be matched by the provincial government. Repairs include furnace replacement, gym floor, windows, sealant, eavestroughs, and exterior siding. Upgrades include alarm system, screen, and projector.

Golf course

By a vote of 7 to 2, council approved rezoning of a quarter section in the far NW corner of the county. The rezoning from "Ranch and Farm" to "Business Leisure and Recreation" would accommodate a golf course, hotel, and convention facility. We voted to reject this same proposal last year, and at that time I voted AGAINST: the roads weren't suitable and the well may not have the capacity to supply 43,000 litres of water a day. This time I voted FOR: the experts say the well will be OK, and if people want to drive on 8 km of poor gravel road to play golf, so be it. The neighbours aren't going to like the dust, but maybe the increased traffic will encourage Alberta Transportation to pave the secondary highway. Yeah, I'm still having second thoughts about this one.
